Monrovia Flood SERIOUS PRECAUTIONS REQUIRE...!
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

PRECAUTIONS REQUIRE>>>!

It is becoming very unusual to evry coastl cities around the world with the fast growing incidents of floors all over. I think it is about time for governments of most coastal cities to start taking precautions on how to prevent future accurence than rushing humanitarian crisis.

As we all are aware of the issue of glabal warming and yet trying to negotiate with world most industrial polutants of the global atmosphere, it would be more wiser for us to start sensitizing our citizens about the traits and dangers that sorounds US ALL...!

The recent story about flood in Monrovia and the worst among all should serve as a clear warning that such incidents will continue and be more deperate than earlier........So, needs most attentions...!

Acording to IRIN news MONROVIA, 21 July 2008 (IRIN) -

Intense and heavy rainfall in the Liberian capital Monrovia on 20 July caused the worst floods on record in Monrovia and forced nearly 1,000 people out of their houses, Liberian authorities told IRIN.

All day Sunday, residents in eastern areas of the city including in Paynesville, Townhalk, King Gray, Fish Market and other communities were seen removing personal belongings like mattresses, clothes and pots from their homes. By the end of the day, flood water had blocked roads to the area, and government rescue workers were using canoes to evacuate the remaining people from the flood areas.

"Right now, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Internal Affairs along with the Red Cross has been assisting in evacuating the flood affected residents to safer locations and as a temporary measure the government has relocated those residents to shelter in nearby schools," Liberia's Chief Medical Officer Bernice Dahn told IRIN on 21 July.

"With close to 1,000 persons displaced this is the worst flood we have experienced in this city," she said.

Meteorologists have warned that the entire West Africa region is likely to receive above average levels of rainfall in 2008. Floods have already been recorded this year in countries including Benin, Cote d’Ivoire, and Burkina Faso.

However Liberia's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) acting executive director Jerome Nyenka told IRIN that the cause of the Monrovia flood is due to what he called "encroachment of human habitations on wetlands" as much as the level of rainfall.

"In this case, we have been able to gather that the affected areas are swamps. Because people have erected structures on those wetlands it prevented the flow of water and caused the floods," he said.

Dahn said the health ministry is already liaising with several of the international aid agencies which have presences in Monrovia to coordinate assistance to the flood victims.

BUT WE HAVE TO DO MORE.......Let's start a better joining now...

Thanks for reading.

LIBERIA-CLCWA-A Dream Come True
Translations available in: English (original) | French

As i said earlier,
The TIG Program in Liberia is moving very strong and there is a need to as for many suggestions and contributions on how we can better make use of this simple opportunity given us all to transform our future and for the generations after us.......!

It is a big plus for the enforcing successes we enjoy and the many
excitements after several connections that are underway. I can see
"SMILES" on the faces of many children as they sat in the CLCWA-Liberia
Telecentre, touching and some seeing computers for their first time.

It is an unforgettable experience and one child in the Caldwell
community said to me ; "Brother Thomas, i really Thank God for the people who
brought about this school". I love them and i can sense some cheers in
their faces each day we appear for class.

For me, the TIG Platform have been a best ground for me since my
internet experience. I think we got more to discover with the new revamp of
TIG.

Let's Work ALL.......

The Usefulness of FLY on TIG...????
Related to country: Liberia

Dear fellow members and representatives of the Liberian youth body at FLY.

I donot see any usefullness of the federation haveing a page on such a globally recognized site if nothing can be read on it about it.

I think the federation's site anywere on the net, should be a place where any yoth from arround the world or any liberia youth in this country wanting to know some about, and whatsoever that is going that concerns youths here in Liberia.

For over three months now i have attempting visiting this Federation of Liberian Youth's Page, to my supprise today, nothing still have been said abouth it's activities there....!

Why so? What is going on at the Federation? Is it that there is no time or there no one to take the responsibility...?

Ok.... Please try your best or ask me, i can help you out...hey!!

Good day

Another Opportunity-Begaining July.....!
Related to country: Liberia

I am saying another opportunity because it may not be the first of its kind in liberia, but where such initiative may have not been such a broad and open source case for TIG-CLCWA, that anyone having the will to learn and start a new life by improving his/her understanding to ICT and technology as a driving force can be a beneficiary.......

In every part of every society now a day, ICT have been use to change, improve and reshape the way things generally used to be, in every aspect of human life. One can feel the impact of technolgy and ICT to be specific.

As an African and a Liberian youth, i consider it a very good opportnity this time that one can make use of, most especially where the cost of gaining access to computers and ICT base educations here in this contry is off the limit, due to the lack of supporting elements like Electricity and Limited Train personnels and Institutions

In this opportunity, youth will acquire this valuable knowledge that will gave them a worth of been useful to their peers and communities by doing something to make them independent by other means. It will also provide a tool for communication for youth and youth groups and leaderships, where information sharing can be made simpler and comprehensive.

The reality is that youth have talents and needs that communities can no longer afford to ignore. When the society fail to provide US - youth with support and opportunities, as adults WE may
- experience unemployment, have drug or alcohol problems, commit crimes, and become a drain on community resources.

Let's all make use of this OPPORTUNITY. This country also need more, which can not, with out the active inclussion and involvement of active and well motivated youth.......

You're welcome

Great Idea, all invited..!

I think this initiative is a great idea.

A liberian brother Uzondu has proposed an event to be held in liberia, the pynesville communities area in Red Light. He called it The "Importance of (ict) In Post War Liberia" It is necessity as it's all about youth as development actors in a post war invironment like ours.

As a remedy, i do here welcome all interested youth/and or youth learders who which to be a part of this initiative as much emphasis is needed to educate the youth of post war Liberia, so as to begin nurturing a class of educated and potential youth who can play a meaningful role in the developmental process. Steps should be taken to encourage broad based development initiatives in education, science & technology in every part of this country.

One way of bringing about this fast paced development is through initiatives that narrow down the digital divide between poor and developing nations. Access to modern communication is an essential element in the post-war human resource development.

I also suggest that more information is still require about this event to enable wanting pasarticipants better prepare to attend.

Good job, i look forward to been apart.

From Africa - Talking about Africa
Related to country: Liberia

While the rest of the world is traveling the global information superhighway of interconnected computer networks, which put a tremendous range of information facilities and services within reach of the general user, Liberia and 75% of Africa stands the furthest removed of all the major regions of the glob from the Information Age.

We see many mal-practices around us; many youth turn quickly into thieves, gangs or other violent activities due to frustration from the lack of employment, opportunity, and training and feel abandoned by society. Majority of our young people at their school going age are out of school and don’t have any training and experience that can secure them a job. Job vacancies announced require a computer knowledge which was an advantage. At least 60% of employees today on this continent do not have the require computer skills require for the new technological integration of management, as a result, additional IT Officers have to be employed to perform common tasks such working with simple office user applications, which is a complete setback to every organization, and increase the expenditure of government and other private entities.

Where are the stakeholders? What are we doing to quickly educate Africa and put this continent on pass with other nations around us?.

What plan do we have for our next generations?

I am listening here.....!
